The risks we see
What actually goes wrong in this sector.
Works in progress
A partly built structure is not covered by a standard property policy. Contract works cover is a separate arrangement.
Public exposure
Sites next to roads, homes or businesses create third-party risk that is entirely outside your control.
Plant and equipment
Heavy plant is valuable, mobile and frequently hired in — with hire agreements that pass the risk to you.
Design liability
If you design as well as build, defective design claims are professional liability, not public liability.
Cover that responds
What we would look at placing.
A starting point, not a recommendation. What you actually need depends on how you operate, and that is a conversation.
Engineering Insurance
Contract works, plant and machinery on site.
Public Liability Insurance
Injury and damage to the public and neighbouring property.
Professional Indemnity Insurance
Design and specification errors.
Group Life Insurance
Site workers, including on high-risk activities.
Goods-in-Transit Insurance
Materials moving to and between sites.
Gaps we find when we review existing policies
If you already have cover, start here.
These are the things we most often find missing when we read a policy in this sector. Any one of them is worth checking today, whether or not you ever speak to us.
- Contract works sums insured not updated as the project value grows
- Hired-in plant assumed to be covered by the owner when the contract says otherwise
- Public liability limits too low for the site's surroundings
- No cover for the defects liability period after handover
