Why this exists
You can be liable for an accident on your premises or caused by your work even where you did nothing obviously wrong. Defence costs alone are significant, and they arrive before any finding of fault.
What it covers
- Injury to customers, visitors and members of the public
- Damage to third-party property, including at client sites
- Legal defence costs
- Claims arising from your products, where product liability is included
What it does not
- Injury to your own employees — that is employers' liability
- Claims arising from professional advice
- Deliberate acts
- Contractual liabilities beyond your common-law position, unless agreed
Exclusions vary between insurers and wordings. These are the ones we see most often — yours should be read individually.
Who it is usually right for
- Any business the public physically visits
- Contractors working at client premises
- Manufacturers and distributors, for product exposure
Terms worth knowing
We do not sell this policy to you.
We compare it across insurers, tell you whether you actually need it, and stand with you if you ever have to claim on it. Start with a conversation, not a quote.
