Why this exists
Once a consignment leaves the supplier it passes through several hands and jurisdictions. Marine cargo cover is what follows the goods rather than the party holding them.
What it covers
- Cargo loss or damage in transit by sea, air or land legs
- General average contributions
- War and strikes risks, where added
- Hull and machinery cover for vessel owners
What it does not
- Inherent vice or inadequate packing
- Delay itself, even where it causes loss
- War and strikes unless specifically added
- Damage noted at delivery but signed for clean
Exclusions vary between insurers and wordings. These are the ones we see most often — yours should be read individually.
Who it is usually right for
- Importers and exporters
- Freight forwarders and clearing agents
- Vessel owners and charterers
Terms worth knowing
We do not sell this policy to you.
